Default Reel recommendations

I'm in the market, (again), for a new reel.
I've got a budget of £80 - £100 max and fish a #7 lfloating line so not worried about a cassette style and dont like the idea of a die cast one which I've read can be a bit fragile if dropped.
I know opinions are like bottoms, (everyone has one), but I would really value some feedback before I commit to buy.
There literally hundreds on the market but would rather buy from a forum member if the right one is available.
So, what are your thoughts?
Cheers,
Top Conker

Dropping a machined reel does not do it much good either to be honest!

Don't right off die cast reels - there are some good ones out there. The Lamson Konic is highly regarded.

If you can get hold of one have a look at the Shimano XT LA.

I had one in a 5/6 and wish I had not sold it as it was a cracking reel (better than my G-tec reel in some ways). The Daiwa is a nice reel but it is a little on the heavy side for a machined reel.

Rather than buy a new reel within your budget its always worth having a look at a quality second hand reel or maybe a discontinued model.try glasgow angling centre and look in sale items.as the old saying goes buy cheap buy twice, usually some good reals on the forum and you wont go far wrong with a second hand sage which is what i use and they are bulletproof,i hope this helps.

If I was to go out and buy a reel in that price bracket tomorrow it would be a Vision Koma not got one yet as they don't do one in the size I was looking for but in my opinion it looks and feel like a great reel and that was after about 2 hours studying them.

Have to agree with this post I hummed and harred for a long time over a large arbor as there was so much choice and ended up going for the Vision Koma. Holds a decent amount of backing and a WF8 is fairly light, well worth the £60 or so.

They unfortunatley have a reputation for shattering, shame 'cause its a great reel otherwise. I really rate Vision gear.

Won't go far wrong with a Sonik Sk4. Get them now for about £60 or £70 i think. I use my #7/8 for a 5wt line so it's a wee bit heavy but on a heavier rod setup it's ideal. Great drag if you need it. It weighs in at 170g but there's a new lighter version coming out soon...

Is that the Vision Koma LA or the Vision Koma Casette reel you're on about was going to buy another LA reel this weekend.
