Default Advice for Carsington

Off to the Peak District on 29 August 2009. Looking to have an evening that week on Carsington Reservoir. Can anyone give me advice as to where, what, when, how etc etc.

Hi, have a look at the Carsington thread under the stillwater section. Lots of good advice. It's fishing well at the minute.

You'd better be careful out on 29 August as there will more than likely be lots of cometition anglers out for the English Ladies on the 30th. So it will be prety busy, particularly around the hot spots.

It's fishing really well at the moment, with the fish on top, particularly from 3.00pm onwards. Before that they appear to be a bit deeper and difficult to catch. They are not too fussy but finding them may be a bit of a challenge, but they are well spread out and unusually for Carsington out in open water, although I catch most of my fish within 100 yds of the shore. Watch ouit for weeds as there are massive weed beds which foul the prop.

Good luck. Drop me a PM if you like.

Thanks for the advice guys, I will read the stillwater thread before I go, sounds like a boat water rather than a bank water though. Only been out on a boat about three times and not confident enugh to take one out on my own. Is there better bank fishing in the area?

Montanajoe, fortunately I am travelling up on 29th so don't expect to be fishing it til probably midweek on the 1 or 2 Sept so should miss any comp anglers. Just hope they leave some in for me.

Yes, carsington is definitely a boat water. The banks just now are really weeded up and make it almost impossible.

I would offer to take you out in a boat but can't make any firm commitments as I don't have a clue about my work situation.
On Monday there were only 4 boats out on the whole place. We hardly saw another boat and when we did we had difficulty making out the numbers on them. During the week you don't need to book a boat, just turn up.

Next week won't be too busy after the comp. I usually just get an afternoon boat from 2 pm on (£15) as that's the best time anyway. If you're up on hols you can always spend the morning with the family and then fish the afternoon. Try and choose a day when the weather will be bad, wet, windy and cool. Then you'll see some quality fishing.

Bank fishing on the bigger waters is a bit hit or miss this time of year, because of weed growth and the fact that most of the fish will be well out in coller water.

If you want to try some of the smaller waters then Press Manor is a good bet and is pretty consistent.
