The only fishing I know is a place on the Rother:

http://www.cowdray.co.uk/fishing.htm

However there are patches of rivers in the north. Somewhere just near Crowborough there is a stream which has browns in and the stream where Pooh raced sticks has trout in it.

I know there are people who fly fish for Sea Trout out on the coast near the estuaries of rivers like the Ouse. The Ouse itself has a pretty famous run of sea trout but the waters are very coloured and therefore it is spinning or good old maggotts.

But where there are Sea Trout there will be Browns. Where on the Ouse systems these Brownies live and where you can fish for them I have never heard. They are probably in the top reaches of coarse fishing areas.

if you want to fly for course fish, you could try the mole, apparently River fisher in this area is very limited.....

river rother http://flyfishingvenues.co.uk/venue.asp?venue=462

Theres a shop in Petworth on the oneway system which advertises for river rother, and also will provide instruction

Default Not trout, but...

Hi Jim,

Not much river fishing for trout/grayling around there.

If you just like fishing and don't mind what you catch, you could do a lot worse than joining Billingshurst AS, who control the fishing on the Arun locally. Not a classic fly fishing river, the stretch from Newbridge (A272) up to Rowner Mill has high banks, gets very overgrown in places and is a bit muddy, but there are lots of pike, perch, chub, bream, roach and some very nice carp (i once lost one of about 10lb that was pure muscle) which don't get fished for a lot. Above the mill pools is a bit wider a more open. They also have a couple of lakes if you fancy some stillwater carp (evenings they get active on the surface).

I used to live in Billingshurst in my teens so fished here quite a bit.

Cheers,

Hi Jim,
I fished the Rother at Petworth for a few years until 2002. Here's the link:

Fees are in the PDF file, you might need to be sitting down

yes, expensive, It was suggested that we take a few lessons on the river, and then get a chance to see how we like it, before finding the £1000+ joint members fee
