good video, the loops i use have a plastic sleeve. I find it very very hard to get the sleeve over the line. my loops always fray. and help on how to avoid this?

to avoid it fraying i tend to get the fly line just inside the braid so that it frays with the fly line in my right hand i use my nails on my thumb and index to hold those frayed ends onto the fly line then with my left push the braid so it opens up and then release so that it jumps into the fly line

feed it up and then gently slide the plastic sleeve over the fly line which and stages ive used my teeth to slide to stop the braid from moving.

once its on it still can come off, been a few times when ive been fighting fish and slip its gone.

so i add a spot of glue on the ends of the plastic sleeve, ive also tried using a blood knot right on the end of the flyline over the braid to try hold it aswell but my knot tying skills are still not the best and it slipped

Cutting your fly-line at an angle to leave a tapered point helps to you feed the line into the braid.

Just before sliding the sleeve over the end, cut off as much of the fray as you can, put some super glue on the frayed end, then slide sleeve to the end of the braid. This means you have glue inside the sleeve, then wipe off excess at the end, a dab of glue at the other end and your plastic sleeve is sealed.

Me personelly i've stopped using the sleeves, i put the loop on ,then whip the end and then glue it .now you've not got sleeve sticking in your top eye where there is good chance of being snapped.Whipping is lot better, being doing this for years now.

Masterline do it, and there's a few others. I've seen it in a few shops up and down the counntry, and if you type masterline hollow braid backning or something similar into google and look through, you can find it.

Forget the sleeves, they can if stiff cut into the join over time. Once I have fitted the braid whip with thread & a wee coat of varnish to seal it off. If you use a bright colour it could act as a ready made indicator.
