Default Daiwl Bach or PTN ?

Today while fishing the guy next to me and I was just taking a coffee break and we got to talking flies as ya do when he produced his favourite the "Daiwl Bach" now this threw me slightly because the body was pheasant tail with wire rib and it had cock fibres for wing, tail and a beard, to me this was a combo of both the DB & PTN + added wing (basically a PTN with wing & beard) now he swears its a DB, I thought DB's only had peacock herl bodies, now I know flies get chopped and changed by the minute it was just he swore it was a proper DB. when I get a minute I'll knock one up and post it, whatever it is it works for him well enough, alas not today though!

Steve

If the hackle was honey dun, it would be a wet pheasant tail tied with the traditional colour of hackle. If game red hen, it would be the more common tying, if mixed red in front of blue dun, with tail made with mixed hackle fibres, it would be a typical northern pheasant tail. Diawl bach is tied with a beard hackle, normally. To be a PT nymph, it would need to have a wingcase would it not? TC

Not a cruncher and it has no hackle, the basic body is black PT while the tail, beard & wing are also black, imagine the beard on top of the nymph thats the wing, rib silver wire, oh and black head too. I'm thinking Hybrid!

Hi', Seiont, I'd want the pheasant to go with it at that price. America is truly the 'land of dreams' TerryC
