Default Hardy's

So why are there so many threads on here regarding Hardy Angels breaking.
Are they being used for Shark fishing?

I had the privelege of visiting the Hardy Greys Factory, back in April time, along with 3 others from our GTEC Team, one of the Attractions shown to us was this little room with the Rod testing equipment inside.

Hardy Greys employee Scott Nellins, carried out 4-5 tests on the same rod, the rod in question was a Greys X Flite - 10' #7 I believe. (Greyflex replacement?) All with the Butt section at increasing angles after each test.... Needless to say, we were all cowering, eyes squinting, from behind the wall, just behind the camera.

The rod passed all tests, including the final test with the Butt Section, set around 70-80 degrees vertical, the machine pulled the tip round, WELL PAST the Butt Section, without even breaking a sweat! And this is a rod retailing at approx £100 as Greys Lower range of rods? The 'dreaded' flat area where rods break was shown to us as it travelled down from above middle of the rod, right down to an inch or so from the cork....

We were then shown the tip section from the same rod, outside of the 'booth'... Where Howard used his thumb and forefinger and snapped the tip like it was a twig...obviously not the way rods are designed to work... but just to show us how weak the rod was when handled/used incorrectly!

Great to see, but I wouldn't want my own MK2 Swift on there.....

Carl

I know I'm rather cynical but... has the same test been carried out at speed and has this rod been taken straight off the production line or is it a demonstration model.

It's mind blowing to think a rod can bend like that. I'd have been impressed if it had done half what they show. Clever stuff this fishing rod manufacture
