Default Dog Choice/Advice

Hi All
We're thinking of getting a dog in the not too distant future. I realise that alot of fisheries do not allowed dogs but where allowed i was hoping to take it along with me. Do people own dogs they take fishing? If so, which are the most appropiate breeds (med to large size) to sit quietly on the bank? The obvious breeds apart (labs and retrievers) which others make suitable fishing companions? For example i would love a Weimaraner but not too sure whether it would be suitable take fishing.
Thanks

My choccy is a wonderful dog but a dreadful fishing companion even though she is normally well trained I find it very very hard to keep out of the water.. She is only useful at night when she sits on the bank and woofs if she hears anyone else about....She obviousley doesnt like swimming in the dark....

i have a English springer spanial and a German shorthaired pionter, i would never take them fishing, first sight of water and their in, more so the spanial, as she's trained to retrieve duck during the wildfowl season.

Beagles are great dogs, wouldn't take mine fishing as they would just ****** off when they found an interesting scent to track.

I've a black lab, who is extremely well trained and wont move until you tell him . I took him fishing only the once, as soon as you took your eye off him he was off into the water.

Australian Cattle Dog......he loves fishing. You will never want another breed after you have had one....its just the puppy stage that can be testing.

Take my Jack Russell everywhere with me, but have to leave him in the car when fishing as last we went, whilst fishing I watched the little b-astard swim past me after a water rat!
Now it's me fishing, then he can go rabbiting afterwards.
