Thumbs up Red legs

Just a bit of info (might be a bit late) but anyone fishing Scottish stillwaters in the near future, better have some Bibio hoppers(dry) or general dry hoppers.as there has been an extended fall of heather flies over a large area of Scotland. If your pulling lures ,you might miss out

Over the last week(fishing mon/tue/wed/thu) I have found that if pulled rather than static ,The fish have not been interested. This has been backed up by the anglers on the LOM.

Fishing on our reservoir near Sheffield yesterday I've never seen as many Heather Flies in 30 years of fly fishing, there were thousands!

Unfortunately there was no breeze to carry them out on to the water but a few were falling close to the bank and drawing in a few trout.

I managed to catch four rainbows on a standard Hawthorn Fly.

The LOM fished its tits off yesterday, well into double figures on a fly called the Murnay. Plenty of heather fly and shield beetles getting mopped up. Fished static, almost a fish or rise evey cast.

Bibio Booby Hoppers have been doing well fished as a point fly on the washing line lately (I think they also love them just sub surface).
Lintrathen was also moving with heather flies yesterday, just a shame you cant buy ready made red legs. Looks like i will just have to sit and knot dyed pheasant tail for the next while

Thanks for the info Jim and All. i hope see the same down here, and that the daddy longlegs population folllows suit, because we have had two poor years for these terrestrials. BTW If you roll your own, a black spider, with a red beard hackle tied behind the normal thorax hackle, to copy the legs, can also move fish. If you want to go the whole hog, you can tie a polywing and add black trailing legs using a couple of strands of crow wing or dark goose wing fibres. TC
