Default Fishing in Northumberland

Have just booked a cottage near Longframlington for a week from 25th October and would appreciate any suggestions as to where to fish.
I hope to get out two or three times, wife permitting!

Derek

I really like Caistron Lake (open all year, except February))

It's about 20 mins away from Longfram, through Rothbury and Thropton.

Very pleasant drive as well. Your wife may like Rothbury - tea-shops, craft shops etc......shops.....

The 2 guys who run it, Cliff and Ricky, are both very nice, helpful guys and will sort you out with best flies, tactics etc.

Splendid views of the Simonside hills as you fish.

Only problem is they can have a weed issue but I heard it's not bad at the minute. Best to use a boat. You won't have to book for mid-week but best to for weekend.

They also have 2 miles of the Coquet so you can do river as well if you like (last week of salmon season).

Their site is: http://www.caistrontroutfishery.co.uk/

Hope this helps & enjoy.

(ps - may be an idea to contact Grommit's shop if you want other suggestions)

Don

The Northumbrian Anglers Federation also does week tickets, which will get you on the Coquet and the Tyne.

I think I'd probably be tempted to try the Tweed or the Teviot for grayling too, although it's a bit more of a drive.

Thanks for the info.

Caistron looks good so I'll try there.

I also notice one called South Linden which is only 4 miles away, and ONLY £8 PER DAY (sport)!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is this too good to be true?

Have to admit I'm from Newcastle and don't have a clue where Longframlington is

There's Sweethope Lough which is 2 lakes the biggest is about 140 acres and the smaller about 30 acres if memory serves, haven't fished this venue for a long time but always did fish from boat when I did.

Langley Dam is well worth a visit and is just outside Hayden Bridge on the A69 about 45 minutes from Newcastle.

Fontburn is in Rothbury and is a Northumbrian Water reservoir only fished it once and vowed never to go back due to the large number of bubble floats but it seems to be popular.

Sweethope is the best place, boat on the big lake, fish dries. On the bank off the big rock on the little lake. Terrific venue and scenery and superb fish quality.

Default Fishing in Northumberland

I have just joined this forum and so this is a bit late for the information request re. Oct 2009 trip. But, please remember that although it is great to see the Tyne is enjoying a revival, there is still good, reasonably priced fishing to be anjoyed by people taking holidays and short breaks in Northumberland. The rivers Coquet, Till and even Aln, in the central part of the county, have always had fair runs of salmon and sea trout. Day tickets can be purchased from around £20 and I have posted some more information and links on this holiday cottage website. There are even some completely free stretches in Northumberland where I had both salmon and sea trout last season.

This might help!?

As part of our Where to Fish project (Fish&Fly has bought the publishing rights to the book) we've started building the Trout Atlas which is of course now a partner to Fly Forums.

The Trout Atlas - Trout lakes of Northumberland

Very early days of course but you will see it build up over the next few months.

Hope it helps you find some good fishing!

Regards

Colin.
