Unhappy Disaster!

Lost my fly box on my local river last night been up since 5.00am looking for it. Feels like an amputation! Didn't sleep a wink thinking where it could have ended up. I must have dropped it after stopping to offer a fellow angler a pattern I'd been bashing them out on. Lucky he declined cos I put it back on my fly patch and its now one of only about six I possess ARgggh!

Green snowbee aluminium lost on River Braid in the unlikely event someone comes across it.

The river braid, is that in northern ireland?

I hate the thought of loosing my flybox, different shrimp patterns gathered up over the space of 20+ years all in one box......im very weary of loosing it.

Hope you find it mate, i feel for ya!

Aye the Braid is in Northern Ireland a great wee river the stretch I fish is pretty heavily fished - it was my "good box" some tied by me and others collected over the years, McPhillips, Donegal Fly Company probably even a few old Rogan's actually better stop the more I think of it the more I remember what's in there!

Sorry to hear of your lost fly box. This is a good chance to remind everyone to write their names, addresses, and so forth on each of their fly boxes. No real angler would ever keep a fly box that he found if it had the name and address of the owner.

I've found two fly boxes, both were on the bank so the flies were in good condition and neither had a name on them. Both owners would have had their fly box back within days if I'd only known where to send them.

Sorry to hear about the loss - I know this is a bit 'stable door and horses' but after a similar loss someone told me to fasten every loose bit of kit to my jacket /waiscoat. C&F do a small coiled retainer with a split ring at one end and a small 'caribiner' type clip at the other. [the small split ring goes into the small lugs on C&F and other boxes]

I'm just trying to find a link -the second link below is for a net retainer but gives the idea. I think I bought mine from Glassow Angling centre [first link]

http://www.fishingmegastore.com/
http://www.sportfish.co.uk/product/c...c-net-releaser

I think the retainers I bought were about fifteen quid each - like all C&F stuff not cheap, but well designed and after I lost one box well worth twice the price!
cheers
Nick

Default looking for the positives

Yeah - I lost one of mine this year, dry flies gathered over 20+ years.

A few positives:

* Famous Grouse kindly pointed out the wisdom of writing name, address in permanent marker. I've done this on all the remaining boxes. Strongly recommended

* I have also taken photos of the contents of the other boxes

* When I was going through the patterns I needed I realised that some patterns had been lost over time and never replaced - step forward Tups Indispensible for example.

* A very kind young fellow from the forum (step forward and be embarassed Fishcake ) took pity on me and tied me up some cracking flies (he fishes round here so knows the patterns - included some new ones I never had). He wouldn't accept anything for them, so I made a donation to a fishing charity of his choice.

* It gives me the excuse to make more visits than usual to the brook where I lost it of the "I'm just going to have another look for that lost fly-box dear" variety.

Having said all that it's still as bad as a kick in the b*lls...but I have had a couple of good fish on the Tups that is now back in action.
