Default De-barbing hooks

When squashing barbs with pliers on fine size 14 and smaller hooks is there any risk of distorting or bending the wire?
Obviously it depends on how hard you squeeze but even if you squeezed gently on a size 20 would it bend the fine gauge wire?

Any info appreciated
regards Morgan

Ive always found that the barb will squeeze shut before too much pressure has been applied to the hook
