Default Tapered Leader recommendations

I'm going to try out some knotless tapered leaders.

Just wondered if any of you chaps have some recommendations.

cairnmore leaders are about the cheapest to try out, about a pound or so, they come in 9 and 12 foot, with droppers or dropper free.

i think the pirate sells them.

I use Orvis, bit pricey, but they are good.

Can't agree I'm afraid. I have found them to be stiff and almost impossible to get straight as they suffer from a permanant memory.
I like the Airflo Poly leaders.

i have one of these, they last for years and quick to loop on but the diameter is a bit scary and the knots make a bigger drag than the fly, do you get delecate ones?

Whichever brand of leader you settle on I would recommend that you buy the small stainless steel leader rings. Attach the ring to the end of the leader(best done at home) then attach the tippet of your choice to the ring. This saves you from losing a bit of the leader every time you change the tippet which you would do if knotting the leader and tippet together.

You can also use the ring to attach a dropper. This system also allows you to vary the length of your leader to suit your method of fishing or to cope with prevailing weather conditions.

I prefer the Roman Moser brand for the rings.

Rio are good and offer great turnover a bit expensive and need a good pull to get them right.

I've used the cairnmore leaders and for the price are pretty good.

A while back I purchased a few Daiwa Wilderness leaders (4X) from a car boot sale, very cheap (iirc 75p ea) and I gave most of them away to friends and new starters, I tried the last remaining one this weekend and I rated it highly , I don't know how long it will last but it offered great turn over, a good pull removed most of the spring and by the end of the day had become very limp and straight, and at that price was a steal, I've seen these at £1.50 and if I see anymore I will buy a few.

Regards, V..

I second that - rings have saved me a fortune this year and allow you to quickly adapt your leader for a change in tactics.

At the recommendation of my local tackle dealer I started using the shaky ones a month or 2 ago.... no problem with them at all. I chop them down to about 7 ft and use them with riverge 2mm links to attach the rest of the cast to....

Cheers
