Default Cock fish...sorely missed.

*try again, right place this time I hope.*

Every time I visit a still water, one thing continuously nags away in the back of my mind. The next fish I catch may be bigger than the last, it may be smaller than the last, but it will look pretty much identical to the last.

Does anyone else get bored of always seeing these triploid, day after day. I'm lucky that still water fishing only really supliments my sea trout fishing, which never induces the above thought.

Wouldn't it be nice to catch a cracking cock rainbow sometimes, with kype and aggressive nature.

To any fishery managers out there, is it still possible to "chuck a few in", just to alleviate the monotony?

I know they're not as financially viable as a triploid...the market dictates I suppose.

On the same subject of cock fish I can't ever recall seeing any cock fish trout in the fishmongers.

You mean the ones that turned grey, thin, squirted milt everywhere, disappeared / died if returned, rarely if ever over-wintered ........

No thanks.

You mean the small seatrout males that are infrequently caught in my river.knowing that most good seatrout will be hen fish.and that brown tout will be the Males involved in the spawning proccess.

The same comment applies to brown trout (or a lack of) in commercial stillwater fisheries, whether reservoirs or small lakes, at least here in the Sunny South....

Fishery managers - just a few more brownies - pretty please....

I'm not so sure I'd like to catch some of the dreadful black cock-fish I used catch at Ladybower years ago.

What would be nice though would be to catch a few butter-bellied brownies.
