Default Windy overcast techniques

Hi all, what techniques would you use for a cloudy windy day? i plan on going fishing tomorrow and the weather men say its supposed to be 12mph winds and light showers. and i am no good in these conditions, should i be using boobies on a sinker? or what? im fishing a small ressie btw.

Why do you say you are "no good" in these type of conditions, if the wind speed is going to be a problem casting for you surely it would be a problem with a sinking line as well.

I fished Saturday in very similar conditions and most of my fish came to crunchers and a couple to hares ear shuttlecocks there will probably be more fish higher up in the water than down deep so personally would I stay away from the boobies.

Head to where the wind hits the water and slap some terrestrials on.
Buzzers cast on a floating line across the wind and left to drift may prove fruitful too

I wouldn't class wind speeds of 12mph as windy. Anything up to 15mph is ideal, although perhaps not so much with the smaller dries.

I'd set off with a team of nymphs or buzzers on a floating or intermediate line, depending how much drag there was on the floater, until I could read what was happening, then switch to dries if fish were rising. A Shipman's buzzer is always a good starter if you can't identify what's on the water.

I completely agree!

To put it into perspective, i was fishing a large dry in a gale that was causing a wave more suited to surfing and caught LOADS! Fish don't read books, as long as it's not a dam cold wind you'll be alright fishing just about anything!

Perfect conditions. I wish all my days were cloudy and windy.

My set up would be Soldier Palmer, Kate McLaren and Orange Hopper fished through teh waves. If the waves are bigger then a muddler or Booby popped through the waves works well. The fish will probably be in the top 3 feet.

good luck

Those ARE great conditions.

I tend to do it "upside down" - neutral density or slow glass line, booby on the point and two or three nymphs. All the flies then fish very shallow.
