Default sunday fishing

Hi to everyone again,

Just looked at the weather and it looks good tomorrow but can you fish on a sunday for trout because i believe it is illegal in scotland (if my memory serves me right).

Cheers
acsimmo

Hi', and welcome to the FFF.
To answer your question: it depends how old you are. If you skip Sunday School, you could fall foul of your teacher. Only kidding.
While on fishing holidays in NW Sutherland, my mates and I took the advice of a local angler and fished for trout well away from the roads on Sundays. as we didn't want to offend any local church-goers. On Skye, we didn't fish on Sundays, at all. On my penultimate holiday on Skye, September, 1985, on the Sunday I dug some sea bait to use off the mouth of the River Lealt. On the way down to the sea on the Monday, I saw a couple of lads fishing the 'fall pool with worm. I walked up the river to have a chat about the sea fishing, and they invited me to fish the pool in the afternoon, when they were booked to entertain the two families. The pool was booked every day of that week, so I fell lucky. I had a fish on worm, just 5lbs and a second grilse of 7lb on a little silver and blue bar spoon. That's what you get for being a good lad! After catching those two nice grilse, I packed up. You mustn't push your luck, by being greedy, in my book. TC

Terry,
Its not how old you are its the ???, you cant be greedy when you dont catch anything ha ha. was just asking cause my grandad refused to fish on a sunday (trout or salmon)on the spey but i was never sure if it was law or superstition.

But if its a nice day and i aint got nothing else planned why not have a couple hours enjoying life

All the best
acsimmo

I've had similar advice on one of the Outer Hebridean islands, don't do it at all in the Northern bit, fish away from the road in the South. Couldn't quite bring myself to do it, not sure why. Fear of getting told off was probably number 1 reason

terry, you shock me, im phoning the parish minister

acsimmo, the swale is not in scotland

there are still many parts of scotland that trout fishing on a sunday is not allowed, i think lewis, skye etc for religious reasons but i believe wolfbridge on the clyde where mrtrout is tomorrow is ruled out, obviously fishing for salmon and sea trout on a sunday is strictly out of bounds.
