Default What makes good accomodation.

I am completely new to fly fishing and only started a few weeks ago when my other half got on to me to do some work on our cabin in Snowdonia. Having previously been bought a beginners kit I thought I’d take my rod along just in case.

The upshot of this trip was three fold.
A. Snowdonia does indeed appear to be a good place to fish.
B. I am now addicted to fishing and
C. I'm a lucky ****** as I have a great place to stay.

To this end I thought I would see what the interest was in renting it out to other fly fishers. I am going to take out a trade membership to advertise it with contact details properly, but until then, does anyone have any (sensible) suggestions of any items I could include in it to make for good fishing accomodation? It’s a small wooden 2 bed (double with a 2 bunk room), shower, W.C. kitchen and living room. Mid way between Porthmadog and Dolgellau. A pub and a shop within walking distance and it overlooks the Rhinog mountains.

PS a bar with a buxom barmaid does not constitute a sensible suggestion.

A TV,DVD Player (with a selection of DVD's if you can risk getting them nicked ),presumably it has the usual kitchen facilities for cooking ,making te,coffee etc ..Does it have a washing machine ? A table/surface suitable for clamping a vice to in case thats needed and a clamp vice rather than a pedestal model is brought .
Remember if letting out you'll need to consider all insurance aspects.
Do you live within reasonable distance as you'll need to go back and forth to change bedding ,tidy up,inspect it etc . Leave contact details with local Plod and/or someone you know lives nearby in case of problems .

As it rains a bit in Snowdonia, somewhere to stow and dry wet gear would be handy.
A guestbook/catchlog would also be useful, along with a guide book(s) to the local fishings.
Best of luck with the project.

It does indeed have a TV and DVD although reception in the mountains is not that good. The kitchen is small but good, 3 ring cooker, microwave etc.

Re table for clamp - do many people tie their own flies? If so I will get something as I just fitted a new kitchen worktop (never again) and clamp marks dont look good.

There is a washer and dryer on the site for clothes (no room in the cabin). What sort of drying for gear? Lockable outside storage with ventilation perhaps?

I think quite a lof of folk do ties their own but whether they do that on holidays I don't know but having something wouldn't go amiss especially if there is a risk they WILL use the worktop if there is nowhere else ...with an indication that the worktop MUST NOT be used .

If you can sort something out to put wet boots and where waders/jackets can be hung up that would do I'd imagine ..doesn't need to be fancy ..just reasonably secure .

I know it's not exactly what you were asking, but for me, one of the most important criteria is whether it's wife-friendly. I don't tend to go off on fishing holidays on my own, so any holidays which do involve fishing have got to be able to appeal to both of us.

That doesn't mean the accommodation has to be palatial or anything, just clean and presentable and, bearing in mind the British weather, a pleasant place just to sit around and read in if it's raining. (I've only been to Dolgellau on two occasions, both of which involved torrential rain!)

And when you are ready to advertise – lots of pictures please!

Yes, there are some of us who tie a fly while on holliday. Not only do we need somewhere for the vice we also need a good light. Not one of the dim new ones , something that you can read the very small print by. Many hotels offer a boiler room in which to dry waders & coats but something where you can hang up a pair of waders has to be a 'Must'. A rod rack just outside the front door can be handy too. Better still an area under cover but outside where one can 'tackle up' and leave a rod while you have a meal or sort the car out ect. ect.
We dont want much do we?
Rod.
