Smaller waters suffer throughout July and August and it's normal for catch rates to fall. As the water warms up it becomes depleted of oxygen making trout lethargic and less inclined to feed.
Best times then are early morning and late evening but on our local reservoir, Wharncliffe, near Sheffield, the morning and evening rises too have been a non-event.
I'm not expecting the fishing to pick up now until mid-September - although some will disagree. It usually takes a few really cold nights to get the water temperature down and put fish back on the feed.
