Default Whens the best time?

HI Everyone

This is my first season fly fishing and am really enjoying it. I have been fishing barrow tanks nr bristol and have found the fishing up until mid june was pretty good bit since then i have struggled a bit and so it would seem everyone else, the reasons are varied from too hot, too cold, too weedy, too much natural food and so on. I know it must vary from water to water but do you think reservoir fishing on the whole follows this pattern of good fishing up until mid summer then goes a little slow? and if so when does it pick up.
regards mike

Clearly there are a huge number of variables which will affect the fishing, understanding these and acting accordingly with your methods will of course increase your chance of catching regardless of the time of year however certain times will obviously be better than others.

Hot, bright conditions are never that good which are more likely to occur during high summer but during these times sport can be excellent early and late so avoid the worst part of the day.

Personally speaking I caught a lot of fish early on in the season and it did indeed tail off somewhat but it's coming back to me know as I'm adapting to the conditions. I also find catching fish in challenging conditions more rewarding so definitely worth the effort.

Smaller waters suffer throughout July and August and it's normal for catch rates to fall. As the water warms up it becomes depleted of oxygen making trout lethargic and less inclined to feed.

Best times then are early morning and late evening but on our local reservoir, Wharncliffe, near Sheffield, the morning and evening rises too have been a non-event.

I'm not expecting the fishing to pick up now until mid-September - although some will disagree. It usually takes a few really cold nights to get the water temperature down and put fish back on the feed.
