hi guys
relatively new to the forum, just wanted some opinions
i fish a club owned resevoir which has its resident wild brownies, and its also stocked with about 1500-2000 fish a year.
recently the catches havent been that good, afew members startin too moan about it
some of the comitee members have been goin there regularly and throwin in thousands of pellets .does this have an effect on the catches?

Join a different club that operates proper fisheries.

Like most ressies at this time of the year , they all get harder to catch . If they are quite shallow , then no doubt the water will be warm round the sides , hence the trout look for deeper water where it is cooler . Our wee puddle has been poor the last 6-8 weeks . We gave it a stock last week and with the cooler water it seems to have got the new and old residents feeding again . As for throwing pellets in it wont do any harm , but if anybody did it in my club , they would be fish food . If the weather gets cooler the next couple of weeks im sure you will start catching again..

Well I would think that it would have an affect on the fishing lets face it if you can get your food for free why work for it if you know what I mean.

Hello cowboy, welcome to the forum.

I am no expert on the subject so take what I say as you find it. I have found that feeding pellets to stockies can have several results. Firstly I only feed in the winter months and then I feed very little and not too often (very most once a week, normally it is more like once a fortnight).

If food is being tipped in by the bucket load this will do lots more harm than good, in fact, IMO I cant see any good come out of it. Fish will turn into fat lathargic Pellet Pigs (I hate that saying) but even worst is the damage the uneaten food will do to the water quality.

I have found that the fish will stay more active, be far healthier and fight much harder if fed correctly.

So yes, I would feed but dont let every tom dick or harry chuck feed in. Get the propper feed have a feeding plan and stick to it.

Hope that helps.

Regards Mick
