Default Fly Tying - the best scissors

Actually I'm terrible when it comes to looking after my fly tying gear, especially my scissors. I always wreck them eventually by cutting wire and tinsel etc.

But I've just got a new pair from SP and this time I will look after them. My old scissors will be kept for cutting the metal materials.

But whilst we are about it, who makes the very best fly tying scissors in the world? I am told that these days the shape of scissors in this country is governed by those horrid b*****ds the Health & Safety assoles who we could very well do without. As a result you have to have a decent pair of scissors ground to the fine points you want.

And whilst we are about it, why not a fly dressing section in Fly Forums?

Ron,

I think that the title of "best scissors" depends on what you will be using the scissors for.

I have a pair of Iris scissors from Seattle Steel Surgical Instruments that are beautifully fine - cost me £50 but well worth the money...

Probably the best are the Solingen range from Germany - but few fly tyers will be willing to pay £30, £40, £50 for a pair ...

I think that one of the best around at the moment for the price are the Marryat ones:

Sensible price, large finger rings lined with rubber so very comfortable and superbly fine tips.

Fly Tying / Fly Dressing ? - I always think in terms of "tying" flies to fish with and "dressing" patterns to place in a frame ... I think that most members of this forum tie flies so the Fly Tying section is aptly titled.

Kind regards

Ron,

There is a "Fly Tying" section on this forum already in case you had overlooked that.

As for scissors, I've just got a pair of these and find they are excellent. I can get in very close to the body to trim off hair wings, hackles etc, and they are beautifully sharp.

Who cares?
I'm sure we all have our favourites but as long as they do the job I dont give a monkeys what make they are.

As I've said before you really should get out more instead of sitting at home thinking up stupid threads to put on the forum.

Another clear distortion of the facts by our resident nut-job.

Embroidery scissors aren't on any special permit or licence where I am.

Anvil make some of the best fly dressing scissors I know of.

I think I'd be scared of being 'sectioned'.

And what about your colleagues on FishingMagic, are they all pseudonym-less too?

OK OK, just for crying out loud have the courage of your convictions and tell us all who you are?

I may have been raised under a different set of values as for many years of my life I've always believed if you can't put up - shut up!!

This business of pseudonyms sometimes goes beyond a joke!
