Default £104 for a wild salmon

Yes, that was the price in a Knutsford fishmongers for a 'wild' River Ribble Salmon - £104. They should be banned from selling such a rare creature and the ******** who sold it to them, should have his licence to fish revoked.
I've no problem to take a fish for the pot should they be in plentiful supply, but to sell your catch from a river system where they are so scarce is just beyond me. It's a shame that the angler who passed the fish onto the fishmonger can think no further than his wallet!

Sounds like value for money

Times must be getting hard for anglers if they are flogging salmon to the fishmongers.

Is it the river ribble that is nick named the radioactive river? It was when I used to live there.

They have broken the law. It is illegal to sell rod caught salmon and sea trout. Report the incident to the EA.

A fish caught and eaten by an angler is dead and out of the system .Same fish caught by same angler and sold to a fishmonger is dead and out of the system ...same end result no matter what way you look at it although I do have some sympathy for your POV.
The answer is to ban the sale of rod caught salmon as in Scotland although I'll be very surprised if it doesn't still happen.
EDIT : I see another post saying it IS illegal so there's your answer as to what to do.

That is the law now in England and Wales. As said, report the incident immediately.

Are you sure it was a rod caught Salmon? I thought the sale of rod caught Salmon and Sea Trout had been banned. Anglers are currently allowed to take two fish per season. There is limited legal netting, and the carcasses have to be tagged and recorded. I suspect this expensive fish was landed by a netter.

Salmon are by no means rare in the Ribble system. As a family we regularly cycle alongside the River Dunsop, a trib of The Hodder. At the top of the valley there are extensive concrete salmon ladders and in these and the rocky streams above we usually manage to spot a few Smolts at this time of year. There are several information boards detailing the lifecycle of the Ribble Salmon, and maps showing their ocean going exploits. It's impossible not to be impressed by the idea that these tiddlers may one day be hunting in the North Atlantic, before returning to these shallows.

FFS - Why should the Ribble be radioactive? What basis do you have for this rather wild allegation?

Back to the salmon: Why wouldn't fishermen from the licensed Ribble estuary commercial net fishery be allowed to legally sell their wares where they choose; and why shouldn't the Knutsford housewife be allowed to purchase a 'proper' salmon for her table if she can afford the £104 price?

EDIT: The tag should have still been on the salmon. If only as proof of origin.

To be fair the OP did highlight the fact "It's a shame that the angler who passed the fish onto the fishmonger ".

So you are suggesting either he is incorrect in his description given by the fishmonger, or you are making a bit of an assumption.
