Hi Guys
Fished a well stocked fishery yesterday only 2 hrs in gale force rain. Fished the same place on friday caught 5 hooked and lost 4 and had a few bites............but yesterday you'd have thought it was empty

no bites tried all the "normal tactics" that have worked there over and over ..........nothing ! I can say for sure there were no fish on the bottom ! floating line long leader gold head nymphs proved that combined with a di 3 and lures, i like fish down i know how to catch them
With 20 mins left on the clock and a "blank" looking the only sure thing i stopped and gave it some thought i could see fish doing dolphin impressions all over the place nose into the gale ? they were'nt taking any flys off the top must be just under ? with this in mind i put on a size 14 black buzzer on my top dropper so it would be in the first couple of feet of water i added a size 14 kate to slow down the sink rate of the buzzer, figured if i cast across the drift would keep the flys up top? combined with the odd pull to lift them and a slow fig 8................first cast a good solid "tug"

most be on the right track.............. a few casts later another good "tug"

but no hook up, another few cast line went solid

and i had a very frisky 19.5" 2 3/4 lb rainbow on my top dropper (the buzzer) really good scrap had a job netting him, gale force driving rain in my face and on a platform, finally netted him

as i moved the net to the right onto the platform it seemed "heavy" and pulling to the left ?? My Dad told me as i landed the fish another about 6lb came up and nailed my point fly

not alot i could do it went nuts line snapped but i didnt care got me a hard won fish

finally got there a figured out where and what they were feeding on , so hopefuly next time i will recognise the behavior sooner

But lesson learned. That one of the things i really enjoy about fly fishing over course theres so many aspects
