Default Fly tart

Am I becoming a Fly Tart????

Every time I see a flytying magazine I have to copy the dry flies in it, I seem to have ended up with a box of flies that although they catch fish I dont use because I'm always using the latest creation, I even read the mags in WH Smiths and remember the dressings to try out later (if I forget the dressing I go back to check it)

IS THERE A CURE ???

The latest fly I tried was Skip Morris's Wooly Wing , which is a Sedge / Stonefly pattern with a wool / lite brite wing and it floats like a cork , had 5 trout on it at the club lake this afternoon.

yep you are very much so a tart. my cure would to be cold turkey on the mags- and create your own experiments for flies- surely you must have worked out some successful features for flies??? just bung em' all together and see what happens!

Dick,

I think the only cure for this kind of addiction is to work with others of a similar problem.

To help you cure this problem may I suggest you start producing SBS for this new flys and posting them on the forum This way at least some good is coming of this vile illness you have, and althoughitwon't cure you it will give you some justification to continue.

I think the novelty of tying new patterns will soon wear off after you realise that, on occasion, trout will take anything from pebbles to rolled-up bus tickets to dog-ends and although these wonderful new flies will all take fish your better off using a few tried and tested patterns that have stood the test of time.

Just for now though, enjoy your fly-tying.

I've sent a couple of photos of the Wooly Wing to Foggy as I cannot upload photos onto photobucket at the moment, hopefully he will post them tonight.

The tying recipe is:

Hook: Fulling Mill all purpose medium *12
Thread: To match Body colour
Wing: Wool mixed with strands of Lite-brite
Body: either Olive or Brown dubbing
Hackle post: Egg yarn (So I can see the fly on the water)
Hackle: Olive grizzle (parachute)

Colours
Grey and Pearl wing / Dark Olive body
Brown and Black wing / Brown body
Black and Pearl wing / Black body / black hackle

I have tied a Hot Orange one to use as a Bung but have not tried it yet.
