Default shipmans buzzers

Hello folks,
this is my second season fly fishing/tying and have just tied some shipmans buzzers.Could you tell me how to fish them please?Do they have to be ginked on the antron fibres or do you leave them to sink alittle bit? sorry if this sounds daft

Try both. I would have ginked them up on a fine degreased line and fished them static or with a very very very slow retrieve. I know a guy who used to fish them sunk and he caught well.

had a few hours at my local resevoir today mate.plenty of fish risin so on went the tried and tested shipmans.floater ,10 ft fluorocarbon leader.
rubbed some gink on the whole body evenly.cast 20 ft at 45 degrees from the breeze blowin at my right shoulder and let it swing round in the ripple, giving it an occasional tug to create a v in the water.
ended up with two nice browns in an hour and a half.
if its a flat calm and still fish movin give the line a jerky retrieve.
watch the line like a hawk cos the takes can be vicious

good stuff, ive been fishing some blank buster buzzers (think thats what they are called) and havnt had a catch yet

tried a few things. casting allowing to sink 5 seconds, slow retrieve wait again repeat. cast out sink continiues slow retrievs, and keeping it higher on the substrate

i didnt mention earlier that i had a bung on the line.started off at 3 ft ,few casts and so on, eventually hit the fish at bout 5 feet.
im keepin it simple with one buzzer for now to get the confidence goin . think you should give it a try buddy.
regards yc

I used to do 2 versions of the Shipman's, both tied with the same materials, but one was on a lightweight size 12 hook and intended to be fished dry, and the other on a heavier size 12 hook and used as a pulling fly. Both caught extremely well under the appropriate conditions. The fur used was Tom Saville's Fiery Brown of which I still have some in my fly tying desk. Superb colour, though not entirely colour-fast.
