If it is Hanningfield look to investing in worms or better still Powerbait if it is allowed. Otherwise look to moving further afield.

Don't take any notice of the luddites - Hanningfield is better than ever

I would suggest you consider taking part in the courses they run there too - very reasonable and you get both casting and fishing instruction. Someone else just joined the forum who is starting at Hanningfield, so just search under that word and you may find a buddy to learn with.

I would also recommend trying out a variety of setups and not investing as much as that until you have worked out your own casting and fishing style. You can get a decent amount of starting gear for half that.

Sunkisbob and I are out there tomorrow, by the way.

Well SKB and I managed 15 today, best 4lbs8ozs, while the spinner boys mainly blanked, and they all paid the same ticket and boat fees as we did. I can see why Nortumbrian Water like having them there

Actually, what the good gentleman Charlie fails to mention is he got 10 and I got 5.

The man is a fish magnet and what is nicer is he still gets excited over each and every fish.

A brilliant day out and much learnt too!

Cheer Charlie, thank you very much.

Ben

I tagged a long in another boat with Charlie's mate Hugh, we also had a good day. My first time at Hanningfield and I enjoyed it very much, it was nice to see that the fly was out fishing any other method.

In fact two young chaps very kindly dropped anchor right in our drift after seeing the three of us taking fish very close together. Out came the spinners and for the next 20 minutes the got exactly what they deserved for their anchor dropping antics, a big fat nothing!!

Once they cleared off we started our drifts back over the area and ding dong Fish on!!

Great day, thanks Chaps!!

And I didn't even mention the Bung Ben

doh!!, it slipped out

What was funny about the bung was that Ben likes those Fish Pimps(one about the size of an egg actually), which always fell off when I had them, so I asked how he keeps them on.

He described a sophisticated means of twisting the line around the little rubber stopper and trapping it in the pimp, which sounded really impressive, until about three casts in his fell off and headed towards the dam...............................
