Default Holiday in Mayo

Hello

I'm relatively new to fly fishing having spent since March fishing Toft Newton
reservior in Lincs.
I go to Mayo nr to Ballina every year for holidays does anyone have any advice on where would be good to fish.
I currently have 7 weight gear and would like to know what is best to fish for

Many thanks

Hi Lurgacloy

You have the Moy river flowing through Ballina, although the 7 weight wouldn't be ideal as the river is fairly big.
Other than that, you have Lough Conn, which is just a few miles away.

Shamus Kelly in Cloghans are the best guides on the lake. (in my opinion). Tel: 094-22250

Then you have a couple of other waters. There is a river a few miles out towards sligo called the Easky river which has a good run of fish late in the season. the 7 weight would be fine for this river.. Contact Granville Nesbit. Cant find the number just yet..

Also you have an option to do some fly fishing for sea trout in the moy estuary.. you can either hire a guide, or go and fish from the shore, which is not so effective, especially as you won't know exactly where to go... so to hire a guide, you could contact

Judd Ruane..

You can probably find all this info on the following link

How are things JJ......we are spending too much time on the forum and not enough time on the water by the looks of things.

Just to correct one small thing our number it is 096-22250 and if its trout fishing your after we will look after you. As it happens Lough Conn is fishing very well at the moment, I managed to wrangle a fair few up last Saturday on sedges and my boat partner turned a lot of fish to Wulffs

At the end of the season there is alays a great chance that you could hook into a big salmon........dont keep them myself as they are fairly coloured but they can be good sport if you put a fly by the nose of one.

Easky river is another good bet if you want to stay away from the Moy, it gets a good late run of fresh fish.

If you need any addittional info you can get me on here or give me a call.

Seamus

I've been to Ballina and fished on the Moy. Lovely people there.

We also hit a lovely loch with loads of browns in there. I'll try and find the name for you

We also went sea trout fishing too. I'll get the names and let you know

Ok here goes
I think it was loch Conn and the estuary was the mouth of the Moy.

We went for sea trout and caught quite a few shoalies

No salmon though, despite them rubbing past your leg in the Moy!

Loch Conn was great fishing

Seamus

Hey Seamus... God ya wouldn't know who ya'd meet on here.. You might remember me, i used to keep a boat at your house for a couple of seasons. I hope your dad and mum are doing well. I remember being force fed dinner there once or twice... Your dad is some man. Tell him i said hello, oh and Johnathan too.....

I've been away from Ballina for a couple of years. must head back for a night or two.. Oh, and i copy and pasted your number from the net.. not my fault.

Spend the day fishing the Ballynahinch river.. great spot... Didn't take a fish though
best of luck in the world cup... 2 in a row????
