Default 1st Fly selection

hello All,

OK, so I've got my 1st kit together, now I would like to get a first set of flys. would prefer to be a compete '1st' set if you know what I mean, something like the Wheatley Malvern Fly Selection.

I'll be fishing reserviours and small still waters. Can anyone recommend anything?

Many Thanks.
Steve

You could try going to the nearest tackle shop and asking the owner to select you say 20 flies from his stock based on the waters you are going to fish.

Thats what I did.

Make sure you have all the usual suspects.............PTN, GRHE, Klinks, Buzzers various. Have a chat with the locals on the waters that you wish to fish for a bit more info on what does well where you are. That should get you off to a good start. I'm sure there will be other recommendations coming in thick and fast..................birdsnest

Steve, I am going to have a clear out of my boxes in a week or two so if you would like some poorly tied but reasonably effective stillwater flies pm me your address and I'll stick them in an envelope to you.

also a good thing to do , not only ask those who fish the waters but ask the ghillie if there is one for the waters your fishing.
i checked the site for where i will be fishing all the time and checked on there.

and i also have to confess to just finding a site and buying 2 of each to make my own set. i bought 2 so i have a spare if i get a snag and brake off.

Im fairly new to this too but have had great success so far i use mainly only 6 flies out of all the ones ive got, dawl bac(or however you spell it lol) brown coloured goldheads seem to work good, also had success on brown nymph pattern and damsil pattern and my favorite is a red/bloodworm buzzer, like i said im new to this but these are the flies ive been catching on so far.
