Default stonethwaite fishing

Im going to be staying in Stonethwaite in borrowdale near keswick (the lake district) at the end of August. Does any one know of the prospects of fishing around here. Im going to take my 3# rod to take with me on walks and possibly my 7/8#
Im told by the lads im going with that the camp site is right next to a river/ stream.
cheers

There are tiny trout and salmon parr in Stonethwaite beck. The best trout are to be found in Blackmoss Pot. The river Derwent, from Seathwaite to Derwentwater, is virtually fishless (no food) though salmon still run in high water around August. Not a great place for fishing. Your best bet would be either Styhead Tarn, free I think, or for river fishing, the Derwent between Keswick and Bassenthwaite (permits from Keswick tackle shop).
Stonethwaite is a wonderful place to camp, some of Cumbria's finest scenery.

Thanks for that gives me a good start to look into my prospects.

Looking forwrd to the scenery regardless. will be nice just to be out. Any trout would be great. My next quest is to get a wild trout or Grayling.
cheers

I don't visit the area in October so can't give any advice based on experience.
Sorry to say, the trout and seatrout season closes on Sept 30th, for salmon it's Oct 31st. A few salmon run through Borrowdale, but you'd be lucky to catch one. The Greta and middle Derwent would be a better bet.
The lake has good pike fishing.
Watendlath Tarn might still be open for stockies, tel. 01768777293 to find out.
Take your thermal undies !!

Many thanks, I'll give Watendlath a ring.
