Default Salmon in the Trent - would it keep the riff-raff off?

A little while ago I had a conversation with a predominantly coarse angler who expressed concern that salmon and even seatrout were running the mighty Trent. The reason for his concern was that if the salmon run reaches in large numbers, long stretches of river will be bought up by chinless wonders and billionaires in extremely exclusive game fishing syndicates. Ordinary barbel anglers would get thrown off and in no time at all, one would see Rollers and Bentleys parked by Collingham weir, or even members of the stock brokers belt arriving by chopper.

And the local pub in Dunham charging £50 for a pint of ale and £3k for a room.

Or am I talking rubbish?

But what do you think?

A salmon river of central location and good motorway links to the major populations of England would be very popular and attract much money. Though I have to question whether a river that lends itself to coarse fish would also have the characteristics to being known as a salmon river.

Tipping hundreds of thousands of fry into a river in order to turn it into another “put and take salmon river” does not make it sustainable.

I’d say Trent anglers should be worried.

I think not a lot to worry about short term, the Trent would from memory be mainly a spinning/bait type river akin to the Severn with fly stretches often miles apart, hardly likely to attract the city slickers and chinless wonders.
Where it closer would certainly give it a lash, but then I am often riff raffish

Does that include the river Dove? Have they not put around a million salmon fry in that?

The Dove is not a river I know at all ,whats it like ???????????
Sadly my knowledge of the trent is from schooldays (long long ago)when I coarse fished a fair bit of the lower river.
