Default Floods , dead fish ?

hi all ,

was out with the dog today down the river (the Wear ) just to see if it was settling down from the recent floods .
it has dropped loads since sunday but still very high and coloured from the few days of rain .
by the look of all the debris in the fields it was obvious that the river had burst its banks during the height of the floods , as i was walking on the path about 20 metres from the riverside i came across some dead fish (stockies) , 5 in total, all around the 3/4lb mark and all very similar .

would i be wrong in guessing that these were probably stocked this season and couldn't cope with the huge floods ? also being recently stocked so they were still grouped together ?

god knows how many more there were ...

sid ,there isnt any local fisheries, trout farms that could of been affected???,but its a sad fact that we lose fish through flooding either pushed downstream or as you have found left stranded by the receding water.

they were between the tudhoe and croxdale stretches , near the main pylons . couldn't believe there was 5 of them . stockies or not they belong in the river , but i suppose thats mother nature for you .

Default " Stockies or not, they belong in the river"

CSO's ?

Stockies actually belong on the end of a drop kick...(after being properly dispatched of course)

my club allows bait fishing for browns , and theres alot of people who target these with all kinds of bait .
the mentality over the years has been for the bait men to take their limit each trip , lowering the stock levels of the wild and stocked population .

i've argued my point with the club committee for years to have fly only for browns , or C+R for a couple of years to get the wild population thriving again , but sadly it always falls on deaf ears .
the answer i keep getting is its a mixed club .

we are not all blessed with well run clubs where its fly only and people are sensible with taking the odd every season .

i expected a more mature reply than that warren , my point was i don't like seeing dead fish on the riverbank wild or stocked .but this kind of snobbery boils my p1ss.
