Default Insect repellent

I got bitten by a horsefly yesterday....2nd time in 3 weeks!! On the wrist each time and my arm comes up like a balloon for a couple of days. Can anybody recommend an effective insect repellent......please!

I recently took a trip to the River Clun and as soon as I stepped out the car I was attacked by the 'dreaded HorseFlies'. I got bitten 3 times in the times it took me to get my fly repellent out of my waste vest.

I applied the 'Care Plus - Deet' spray and was not bitten again. This has always worked for me.

Sabsman.

Two possibilities here...

A ,,, They must really like you

OR

B ,,, Unlike the rest of us you retired folk can spend an inordinate amount of time fishing....

Autan or JF works best for me

Andy

I've tried 'em all, they all work... for about 10 minutes!

When you've been bitten/stung get some neat TCP on it ASAP.

Try "Bushman", made in Australia. They should know a thing, or two

I fished in Victoria a few years ago when the black flies were out in force. The first day was an utter misery, constantly waving the flies away from my face

Once I put this stuff on, they did not come anywhere near me for hours. (see link below)

Hi Greekfly, this stuff sounds fantastic. Any idea where you can buy it in the UK?

Cheers, John

Hi Blanker,
Just ordered some on their site.
Ordered 2 bottles for about £16 including postage.

Aventis Anthisan cream also works well.

often its scratching it that makes the bite get worse, if you get a bite rub on some antihistimine cream, takes the itch out, goes down.

edit...maybe i should have read castalines post....
