Default River Gannel Cornwall - fishing help please!

Hi, I hope this is the correct area to ask my question.

I have to admit that I'm not a fly angler so forgive me brother anglers but I need some info on the river Gannel in Cornwall and found a couple of posts from this forum. I am a coarse angler but can turn my hand to any type of fishing within reason.

We are staying at the caravan site at Crantock beach for the next two weeks.
I tried to find out if the Gannel is fishable for anything but have failed to get any info.
Is it worth me taking some kit with me when we go and what sort of species would I expect to catch if anything. Tackle, fish and tips please!

Any general info would be fantastic!

thanks

Paul

Trout, sea trout and flounder can be caught in the Gannel.
Its very tidal and I would think not suitable for your type of fishing, but if you do try trot a worm or maggot down.
There are some good course lakes around the area.

Thanks, I do have a fly rod that I could take. It's only a 7/8 rated rod, I have various lines but I havent been fly fishing for years. I'm no game angler and just hoping for anything that swims!
I was going to take a Carp rod so I could either spin or chuck out a bait of some sort, do you think there's a chance of connecting with something doing this?
Pardon my ignorance but would it be best to fish when the tides in or as it's running out?
Are there any Mackerel or other fish that could possibly take a spinner or plug?

Sorry for so many questions....

thanks

I think your going to be a bit disappointed as when I said tidal I mean Tidal.
So fish it in and fish it out! if your not a regular fly fisherman a small silver spinner is best.
But please don't raise you expectations as you will be very disappointed, but saying that you can get some good fish there.
I am sorry that I will be in Ireland when your down, as I would have tried to have helped, but in all truthfulness you will be better trying a fishery or bass off the beach.
all the best
Mike

The better sea trout pools are upstream in the hands of private land owners.

I know this because years ago,I got to fish this stretch through a friend.

I would take MARAZION MIDGE'S good advice here.Newquay has some great bass beaches or just fish the tidal water with spinner or worm bait.

Regards

CF
