Default Metal Rod tube in plane

Hi,
I am going to the USA end of august and I like to carry my rod with me. It is stored into a metal rod tube and I wonder if British Airways will say anything about it. Plastic tubes shouldn't be a problem as the x-ray can go through but not metal tube ? I don't want my checked baggage to be open.

You can apply, when you get there, to have your product screened.
This then allows you to take 'dodgy' stuff on the plane

I did this on my way to the us with a toy gun. However this was for stowed stuff and they wheel it off

best bet is to ask BA as it ****es me off when they won't let me take my travel guitar onboard, yet it's ok for kids to walk on with a witches broomstick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best bet is to ask and arrive early just incase you get some jobsworth ahole checking you in
No matter what we say here, it's the airline who have the final say.

Some days I could take my guitar, other days I had to unstrung it, other days, no chance!
All depends on the people there.

Ask BA, get a letter maybe and go for it early.

Or others may post they do it fine

They will insist it goes in hold, unless they have changed opinions recently, however if it is 4/5 piece travel rod it should fit in your case/hold all no probs, i regularly pack two 4 piece 9' rods in steel tubes in case when going abroad and never had any problems, but certainly wasnt allowed to take them into cabin!!
regards

Forget it Pierre. I'm in the airline industry myself. The tube will almost certainly be banned. The rod definitely will be. As ludicrous as it sounds. it would be regarded as a potential weapon.

My advice would be to pack it in an ordinary suitcase, not a fancy fishing holdall that attracts attention, lock it up, check it in.

Those charming people at BA might tell you can carry it on if you phoned and asked (although I doubt it), but security will stop you. Then you have the problems of confiscation or alternatively, getting turned back to check the item in on it's own. It will then be left exposed as a valuable fly rod while in transit.

Security in the USA can present further problems. I've heard of rods being removed by Customs/Security and getting damaged as they are stuffed back into the tubes after inspection. So it's understandable that you would want to carry them and handle them yourself. But you can't.

And they wonder why tourism to the USA has been on the decline in recent years.

Enjoy your trip

You are supposed to be able to take certain items of sport equiptment as hand luggage, if it fits in your hand luggage then you should be okay?

Its not the airline who will make the final descision its the security guards at each check point, they make their own rules up, one may let you through the next may not.

Stick it in the hold

Sounds like you have an ideal case for buying a new rod, you could always post it home after
