Hi David and welcome to the Forum.

You may have wished to put this in the Tackle Talk section

Someone has actually just been discussing the Loomis in there.

Best of luck.

Ben

Rest assured you've bought a cracking rod!

One tip I've been given is to use lines a rating higher.
So I use my 6wt rod with 7wt lines They load the rod better...apparently

Default loomis

Listen mate loomis rods are made to take specific rated lines thats why they only have one number on them, use the line number that the rod states, people who use higher rated lines to get the rod to work must have casting issues ,ive never picked up a single number rated rod and thought oh this needs a heavier line, and ive been at it 40 years

Default loomis rods

my opinion for what its worth is thats a great rod i have loomis & sage the sage finish is far superior to the loomis but as a casting tool the loomis excels you cant go wrong with it ,i use the 10FT 8wt for single handed salmon fishing never had a problem with fish up to 16 lbs cheers pete

That's a bold statement rooky............ but each to there own mate.

I would have to totally disagree with you here, i would recommend with a floater to go a line rating higher to get the best out of a glx d.

I'm with you on line weight. All my lines are 7's for my 6 weight Distance rod.
A really good rod that fairly chucks out the line. Only wee snag I've found is a sticky reel holder, the sliding sleeve is a bit hard to slide off sometimes, but that's being a bit picky.
