Default Pin fry

Hi all,

I was on Sheelin over the weekend hoping to get a bit of sedge action and noticed alot of pin fry floating belly up, totally motionless, but when disturbed the fry shot away.
Turned out the fish were sipping these little guys down and when spooned the trout were stuffed with them.

Any ideas why the fry were behaving like this?

Cheers.

Hi , I was out on Sheelin early the other morning and it was flat calm . I sat looking down into the water and I saw balls of fry all with their heads down and tails up and not moving atal I have also seen these fry as you say belly up and when I pick them out of the water they come back to life , put them back and they swim away . I think these few belly up ones maybe ones that have been stunned by trout ??
Not all the trout are on the fry on Sheelin . If you spoon others you will see no fry what so ever only sedge . You say you were hoping to get sedge action , did you not then ?? I am on Sheelin nearly every day and getting plenty of action on dry sedge .
How did your visit go and what did you catch and how ??

When I say "hoping" I ment weather wise, the dry sedge has been good so far for me, but I was on wets yesterday with 2 on a green stim biggest about 2lb 3/4.
I am hoping this evening will see a bit of dry action, but if I could help it I would prefer to drift than pull in and wait.

Try a team of 3 Silver Invicta's on a jerky retrieve if you see the fry belly up again. Can be lethal on it's day.

Had a good enough day, 3 fish biggest 2 1/2 on dries but after a heavy shower the temp plunged and so did the fish. Spooned 1 and he had a mixture of sedge pupa and beetles.

Funny as I already know that as it turns out we spoke when we came in
Well done and as you know I had 6 and as you 2.5 pounds was the top one for the day
Interesting about the beetles.
