Hi Guys

Caught this brown trout today with a large white patch on its flank ?? Any ideas ? fungus ? disease ? osprey ? otter ?



I did hear tell an otter was seen in the area yesterday ?

looks like its filled with philadelphia cheese

I'm not suggesting it is but it almost looks false to me as it is so bright and uniform. I would have to say disease of some sort as I don't think it looks like the mark of a predator.

Never the mark of a predator, bird or beast.If I were you I would not eat it.

HI Guys

Yes this ones not an eater ! The flash has kind of whited out the area ,but its is very white and rough but not gunky ?

I wondered if any of our fish farmers recognise it ??

The shape suggests a heron but the size says not, unless it has infected and spread. what size was the fish

looking at the redness below i would say its had some sort of lesion/ulcer that has fungussed !!!

looks like the skin has been pierced/cut/damaged before the infection or whayever it is set in.

Yes that's what i was thinking in my post above and a heron,s bill is triangular in shape, Whiteacres fishery has a big problem with them and the wound shape is classic heron, but the photo is not clear showing the flesh.
