Default Sea Trout tactics - help?

Will my 9' 6" rod (rated 7wt) be OK for night time sea trouting. A friend is recommending an 11' rod, I'm not so sure.

Also, I have floating line with an intermediate section built in at the end. Do I need a full intermediate or slow sinker?

Finally, how about a furled leader with this set up, and a short length of mono?

Am going to the S. Esk in Scotland end of July, (medium river, some deep pools, some good shallow runs too) would appreciate any expert advice as I know some of you lads are well into this malarkey!

Cheers,
Tone

The rod will be fine, but don't bother with the furled leader. You can use straight through mono or fluoro.

I use a slow intermediate for most sea trouting, occasionally I'll use a floater and change polyleaders to get depth. I just don't like the v-wake that a floater often makes. In deep pools I'll go to a Di-3 or a fast sink polyleader on the intermediate.

The only time you definitely need a floater is when using a surface lure or popper.
