Default Changes in the Law re:Poaching

Anyone know anymore about bailiffs no longer being able to arrest and we can no longer show our valid EA rod licenses and ask for theirs?

Very true. What happens now. I have been stopped before, I just show my licence they signed it and they went on there way.
Why change?

Anglers must be able to produce their licence when requested by an Environment Agency bailiff or other authorised person and anyone fishing without a rod licence will have their details…

You need to become EA 'authorized' to demand licence production. EA rod licence holders no longer have automatic right. It was withdrawn some years ago for legal reasons.

By-laws were further changed recently ref 'carcass tagging': http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk..._Jan_2009).pdf

Do the EA ones just check that you have a Rod Licence and don't check that a fishery permit is held or do they do both ...likewise do Fishery Baillifs check fishery permits and not for EA licences ?

I live in a land where EA/Rod Licences do not exist but just curious

Yes that's spot on Stu. EA bailiffs will only check for a rod license, while beat bailiffs (it would appear) can now only check for beat permits. Even then I think the club then has to prosecute the offender for theft (though I may be wrong on that, I'll check with my brother-in-law who is an EA bailiff).

Hi All

I am a member of Prince Albert and one of there bailifs always asks for both of the current licences. Every time for the Albert card but usually once for your Ea licence usually around expiry/renewall time, trying to catch you out i guess. I pressume he would chuck you off if you did not produce it, never happened to me yet i am a good boy always get it.
