Was fishing on the Clyde and this cheeky wee otter decided to inspect me up close!

Thumbs up

That is great Is it a young one or maybe one that is used to people ?? There are ones that are bred and released into the wild could it be that ?? I ask this as I am just so surprised how close it came in daylight and how long it hung around for .......
Thanks for posting , I have watched it 3 times now

Its such a rare sight these days, i had one rise under my rod tip on a small stillwater last year.
I remained still so as not to startle him and it was sometime before he noticed me, doubtless thinking thats a funny looking tree holding that #5wt

Fantastic, it seemed genuinely interested in you.

I had a great Otter moment recently while in Mull. I'll see if I can post up the video later.

Even though they are actually increasing in numbers in many areas, it is still an enormous privilege to be able to share the river in the way that you did with that wonderful creature. I’ve encountered them reasonably close on Mull and amazingly had one pop up within a few feet of me when I was fishing the Hampshire Avon. Remarkably it was actually within the city limits of Salisbury, in semi urban surroundings. We were both as surprised as each other to see each other I think, he didn’t stick around.

I had a similar experience in the late nineties whilst fishing the Warmanbie Hotel stretch of the River Annan. An adult otter probably male, surfaced practically under my rod tip and continued to play around for a good ten minutes and seemed totally unconcerned that I was there in the river.

I just stopped fishing and watched it until it decided to go on its way. I've seen a couple since on other rivers in Scotland but never one as bold as the Annan Otter. A wonderful experience.

Some years ago, I was fishing the Towy, for the first time at night for the 'Supposedly Present Sea Trouts'...............

No Sea Trouts came my way, then, or ever since, but an Otter did come right up beside me whilst I stood up to my nether region in the water.

It was both a scary shock, and weird kind of priviledge at the same time.

They are incredible creatures, but at the same time 'Terminator 2's' to some of our fish stocks!

Nice one Ali

I came across a couple of otters working a pool I was fishing a a week or so ago. One went up the far side from me but the other swam right up to me and started hissing at me - seemed not to like the competition, not that my fish catching prowess is any threat
