Default Reel #7/8

Hi all just looking for a little advice, would it be possible to use say an 7/8# reel with a 5#line, would it be just a mater of putting a little more backing on or would other problems be experienced.

Many thanks in advance Landrover64

I do it.....

It makes ****** all difference what reel you use, the only concern you'll have is the weight of the larger reel. Try it on your 5wt rod and see how it balances, if it feels rubbish and you don't like it, then it's obviously no good...

Up to you with the backing, personal choice.
