Default yearly membership prices

For those of you who pay annual memberships for your fishing how far would you go before thinking 'thats abit expensive'. Are your choices to pay annually based on location, the amount you fish a particular lake or maybe even scenery or the fish. What sort of prices do you guys pay?

I reckon that about £100 is right for a club with water on a decent migratory river in Wales and at this price I'd expect to have a bit of company on a good day/night. I pay a similar amount for a membership of a good trout club with limited membership.

I also pay quite a bit more for another club with some of the best water on some of the best rivers in North Wales and a rod limit of some of the beats.

In total I pay about the same as a season ticket on one of the big Midland or Bristol ressies and what a golfer would pay for a membership of a middling to good club in the same area and think this about right.

Welshy,

This one crops up a bit and it depends on what you as an individual perceive as value for money I guess. Personally, I pay a yearly club subscription which allows me access to a lot of miles of good river fishing. Based on the number of times I fish each year, I can work out a cost per visit and if that figure is reasonable for the quality of water in question, then I'm happy.

I find a lot of anglers baulk at paying good money for access to high quality private fishing, yet the same blokes will spend over a grand on golf club membership without blinking an eye. On the other side of the coin, there are a number of clubs which for a ridiculously low annual subscription permit access to some disproportionately high quality fishing.

It's an interesting question and will no doubt spark some lively debate!

Matt

Where I fish river availability is so little (Kent/Surrey) that I expect to pay more.

£300 for one and £130 for another.

If I lived where they were two a penny well I'd expect to pay less. The Scots are always more fortunate with their national past times, golf or fishing.

Indeed , But they can come at a fair price as well . My local fishing club is £250 a year ( But worth every penny ) My local golf club is £750 a year , but again worth it . In Scotland we are indeed lucky , nearly everywhere will have tickets cheap to expensive to cover all levels of income . Fine example the river clyde for about 35-40 quid a year , you have one of the finest rivers in Britain..

Heres one for you on the same subject,

I manage a water on land that does not belong to me (about an 1 1/2 acre), I pay no rent for the water and charge members £70 a year to fish ( ALL the money pays for the stock), I have a maximum of 30 members, their is a good stock of wild browns to 4lb+ and I stock it with Rainbows (about 60 at a time) about 4 times a year.

You can fish it for a month without seeing another member so its very good for the money.

The problem is, the land owner has now asked for £50 rent per rod, which ups membership to £120 per member per year (they can fish all year for stocked fish).

Still good you may think, but the water is only 8ft deep and needs extensive weeding twice a month, this is done only by the members and its bloody hard graft as I am sure most or some of you would know.

If we dont do it, it would not be a lake for long.

On principal, I think screw em, have your pond, but I know people on here would give their right arm for a big wild brownie.

Whats your thoughts?

With regards to welshy1's question, I guess it depends on what it is worth to you, this could also answer my question..

He is holding a loaded gun to your head mikgee, ask him for a written guarantee that the cost will not rise for at least five years, if he says no, then he is only going to raise the price every year. Then I think it is time you moved on to pastures new.
Billy.

Agree - give him 25 and get a no price rise agreement within a ten year lease or tell him to x off

hi mick, if he is now charging you rent ,i think you are entitled to ask him towards some input for the stocking also some weed clearence etc etc ,in effect you are now renting that water to which he must have some responsibility surely providing decent access etc etc,if you decide to go down the route of upping your membership ,be sure to get reciepts from the owner because as sure as eggs is eggs he wont be declaring it and you need some proof to show members why the increase has come about.
