Question Horse-Fly repellant

Having been bitten to pieces recently, and with the bite-marks, swelling and itching to prove it, does anyone know a good way to keep horse-flies at bay?

Baseball bat.

Sorry to be flippant but I hate the things and nothing seems to keep them away. I will watch with anticipation for any good ideas, they usually attack me on my mountain bike on slow steep hills.

Default Clegs

Hello

Clegs are repelled by stuff that's made for keeping flies off horses. Visit your saddlery and collect some anti-fly concoctions. A huge variety is available from summer cream (yellow, comfy to use but stains you a cheery shade of ...er yellow) to stinging liquid from NAF (avoid). Don't go for the litres of pour-on agricultural liquid because it can have funny side effects, ok for cattle tho').

Trish,

Thanks for the tips, i'm afraid I don't have a saddlery (or a farrier for that matter). Do you know anything thats a bit more human based?? I appreciate your reply though but would prefer to avoid the various side-effects of changing colour etc.. although developing some horse-like features may be over-looked

Don't be so annoying! Of course there's a saddlery or agricultural suppliers near you. There just IS! If you tell me where you are, I'll find one for you.

Default horse flies

Hi, doesn't the old Avon skin so soft work on these not so little devils, (they've changed the name now to soft and fresh from woodland fresh), it seems to work on most other flying nuisances.cheers MASS

Try riding quicker.

In a road race a good few years ago I was given a black eye by a bumble bee - the impact was such that I almost lost control of my bike!
