Smile Suggestions on 10ft+ 7/8 rods?

I have a Greys GRXI which i am happy will but was thinking about buying a second rod. Apparently there are many types of tip actions which make the rod perform differently? Where i fish i need to roll cast a lot because of trees behind so i'm looking for a rod that will give good distance . So could anyone recommend a suitable rod or any advise?

I have not tried this yet myself, but there are quite a few "Switch" rods coming out in very low weights, such as a 4/5 or 5/6 in 10'6" or 11' (equivalent to a #7/8 single hand). They are light enough to use single handed as well, but the longer bottom handle allows you to use it double handed for overhead and spey. Combined with an appropriate switch/spey line and a poly leader you should be able to get the distance you want.
As for brands, depends on budget. Winston's MX Switches are getting quite a writeup, but cost a bomb. Beulah is offshored but have a rising fan club, and are available here for not much than £200. For home grown, you could go to Mr. Norwich who would build one to your specs.

A Greys Platinum XD 10 foot 7 weight is one of the nicest rods I possess.

I don't think they make them anymore

Whatever recommendation you decide to go for, make sure to try it first! One person's great rod is another's crapper. It definitely pays to try before you buy!

Odd to find you on this thread Scotty9 - thought you'd be recommending a 5wt - aren't 7 and 8wt seriously overgunning?

Unlike your post in this thread, i'm trying to help the original poster. Maybe i shouldn't have, silly me. Please define your contribution to this thread.

(If you had read my latter posts in the other thread, you would see that i enquired as to why a heavier line is choosen as the norm, and the replies were very helpful.)
