Thumbs down What is the point in a 7 foot rod?

7 foot rods cast bad (well worse than a 9-11 foot) And in tight places with trees around i think a 8 1/2 is just as effective.... its just silly

9 foot 6 for life!

"9ft 6 for life", until you have to fish a tiny stream with overgrown trees and limited casting space and find your nine footer banging off the far bank...

In these situations rods of 6ft - 7ft 6 are superb tools.

You might want to have a look at your casting, before blaming the rod.

Incorrect.

For you they don't work but not for everyone.

Some of the sweetest casting rods i own are sub 8ft.

I have started to creep the length of my rods up slightly in the last year or two but there are still times when my 5ft 9" rod is still to long

I have heard that a 7' rod helps with accuracy and "on the tickey" presentation, especially when finesse casts are involved.

This apparantly why the bass boys are going back to 7' rods

Funny, covering a fish with my #4 7' is an absolute breeze. Exceptionally accurate and great to be able to wave around in the tree lined stream I fish.

Although I will slip to a 6'6" #2 for really accurate work if there is no breeze.

9' is useless in this space, can't get enough line out, no room to manoeuvre. not enough flex to load the rod properly so getting an accurate cast is impossible.

Anything over a 9' #5 is for reservoir fishing, where covering a lot of water is important, or czech nymphing.

Quite right, you obviously can't cast anything other than a long rod.
I use a 7ft and occasionally a 5ft 6" and have no problem.
Me thinks this guy just wants to start a windup thread.!!

Yep thats exactly what it is, a wind up thread, i wanted to get some results and see the real advantages of a 7 foot, what better a way to juice some anglers of there know-how than to anger them into it

You might be a troll who can't spell and is trying to be provocative or you might be just asking basic questions because you are a newcomer to the sport and need to learn. Assuming that the latter is the case it is unlikely that you can cast well enough to pass judgement on the merits and casting ability of short rods. Any problem with them is going to be your casting not the rod.
