I wouldn't recommend joining fly line to leader with a blood knot - two reasons -
1. I've never tried it () but I can't see that the two very different materials would form a very efficient knot and,
2. It must be a touch 'bulky'!

Why not use a length of heavy mono needle knotted to your line or for absolute simplicity, something like a Roman Moser Minicon braided loop then loop to loop your leader to it?

Simples!

(And no, I doubt that you're an idiot in the true definition of the word. )

Do you think it can weaken the line, would you have to be more careful fighting with the fish?
