Visiting the lilly loch again. Wetre going in the evening so hoefull cath it when it cools don and the bugs come out. Any tips welcome. This will be my 4ht of 5th time fly fishing since about 10 years ago when I first stared as a kid but lost interest back then.

We have some newly tied wooly buggers for fishing deep, also collection of drys ( only if the fish start surfacing) and various nymphs and buzzers a few apps and bloodworms.

Anyone have any good tips for fly fishing ithout prope leaders ie just fly line and mono/tippet?

Go after 7pm (7pm till 7am session) and fish some sort of sedge pattern on the surface. The fish will come to it, the lilly loch explodes in the evening with rises! Can't go far wrong with that, don't bother with fishing deep unless the suns out full force

Yeah its great at night, the first time we went we went at about 3pm, the fish started going crazy once the sun went down, fish jumping every few minutes. Certainly not shy once it gets darker. Were getting there about 5ish get some relaxed numph and buzzer fishing maybe try a wooly booger depending on how sunny it is.

Yeah i thought that about depth, if its supper bright fish are gonna be down low.

Looking forward to when the fish rish, id love to catch on a dry fly.

Today was an epic fail. My mate forgot to lift his fly box with some new flies he had tied.

All we had was 2 buzzers which were fairly beaten up and 1 maggot fly. My mate got a flie stuck in his arm. We gave up after a few hours and going back tuesday.

Im going to order myself some flys, any recomendations?

Ok, so its now on for tuesday wth all the right gear with us. I have even ordered myself some flys from the essential fly.

2 blank busters - Flash attack fly. These are very spareselly dressed, no more than a hook a head and very little thread on the body. Ive heard some good reports about these. Its an all day fly apperently

2 Elk hair caddis tan - This doesnt resemble any particular caddis, its profile is made to resemble a wide range of caddis flys, used worldwide

2 Black wulff - i dont have a clue about this one, not sure why i ordered it "Black Wulff . The Black Wulff is a great Trout Fly. This fly is fished in the style of Dapping Flies or Mayflies or Humpies & Irresistibles or Trout Flies or Dry"

2 Caddis Larve sedge - its a caddis larva

Also 2 general use leaders.

Well that was a disappointing day. We were supposed to go up for evening fishing, but it had to be afternoon.

Was very cloudy and not too warm so we thought we would see fish rising. The loch was quiet and the only person to catch a fish when we got there was a wee boy using a spinner.

Started off with a blank buster buzzer with my 12 foot leader. Right away a big difference, casting nicely. No bites, nothing, none of us, not even on powerbait.

Switched to the caddis larve sedge, nope nothing on that either.

The only indication of fish in the loch today was in the fly fishing section, i seen a big splash in the middle, a big dimple in the water and heard it too as if a huge fish took a fly or something. It was pretty big might not have been a trout. Then i saw another under the bridge.

Didnt bother with the black wulf or the elk hair caddis, didnt see the point unless there wer fish rising. Plus i have a terrible tme in the wind with floating line.

Oh well, try agian another day
