Default Fishing around York - any recommendations

I'll have the pleasure of accompanying my girlfriend as she digs up parts of York this July (archaelogist stuff in Hungate)

Seen as I'll be staying in the area and bored in the day, I'll be bringing up my tackle.

Are there any good fisheries around that part of the world?
Do any allow float tubing?
Is there also another place where I can take the boy for him to fish easily?
Are there any good rivers where I can go fishing?
What flies would be good on these waters?
Does anyone fancy a meet up?

Any help would be great

Thanks

John

the river holme in holmfirth is a lovely little river which has lots of free fishing too....

as for rivers you have the wharfe and the aire within an hours drive of york...

i believe the Foss in york is a "free" to fish river

Any of the North Yorkshire rivers which are close by will provide good sport.

Hi

If the Foss contains any migratory fish or even decent trout I will stand w......king in Burtons window . Its a bit of a canal to be honest. The link on the web for that is very misleading.

West of York there are some opportunities on Rivers and Barbusbruce on here seems to be the one to ask. Im sure he`ll help

East of York opportunities are ltd for Rivers, A few mates fish Wykeham lakes at Scarborough and Further north about a good hour from York away there is Lockwood and Scaling and there is Wansford on The wolds . If you fancy spoiling yourself the there is Mulberry Whin at Driffield,,,

If you want somewhere easy for the lad then Pickering Trout farm has a fun lake,,,Great for getting kids hooked.

If whilst your in York you need stuff Chas at Hooks and Tackle is the man to see.

Andy

John,
If you can afford it you may like a day (or evening as it can be cheaper) on Mulberry Whin beat of the Driffield Beck which is about 20 mins. from York. It is a chalk stream (most northern in England) and a very good fishery.
www.mulberry-whin.com. sk you andrew and tell him I recommended it to you. May not get a discount but you may very well be fitted in as they only allow 4 rods/day.
