Default wardens, love em or hate em

lets face it most wardens are decent people but every now and then you bump into a right miserable jobsworth *****r, you no the type?

so why don't we name and shame the idiots and praise the good ones.

i'll start by saying chris at ravensthorpe is a rude unhelpfull work dodger but alan at rutland is very helpful and curtious.

what positive and negative experiances has everyone else had?

don't worry everyone i've not said anything on here i wouldn't say to the people concerend's face, discuss.

The chap at Grafham, is the loudest you will ever hear! Friendly enough though, but my God deafeningly loud!

One of the ladies in the shop is rather rude, the other very friendly. The crazy thing is though that the general lack of helpfullness must cost them business, I know I have bought things elsewhere becasue of this.

The other day I went to Rutland, and a sign on the door said re-open at 3, at 10 past I wandered off to find a warden, who said 'he's tying to do paperwork and keeps getting disturbed'..............DISTURBED.............by customers presumably like me wanting to buy things!?

Eventually it re-opened and the chap inside was 'happy', as you could imagine!

Sometimes I wonder if these resevoirs and some of their staff have things too easy commercially, becasue I know for sure if I approached my business with the same occasional apathy and rudeness, I wouldnt have one for long?

I know we all have off days, but this is business.

By contrast, and I know an entirely different scene, I would say the staff at Avington are amazing, nothing is too much trouble. Lechlade by comparison didnt seem so friendly.

I guess we are all different so our expectations are all different, the only thing is its how your customers perceive you that dictates whether they will ever come back again.

For decent tackle purchases now, sadly its almost impossible to shop locally, so we poddle off to Sportfish in Reading, where quite simply quality and service is 'Top Drawer'.

I know not really relevant but by comparison, all 'peeps' associated with running river clubs and syndicates, I have found to be incredibly helpfull, and seemingly like the guys at Sportfish Reading, very knowledgable and quite happy to pass that knowledge on to others.

As you say, nothing wrong said, but I would like to think that some of the peeps who may read this who maybe work in the fisheries business, could maybe count to 10 before they speak to their 'clients', therefore sorting out their approach to questions in a polite and curteous manner.

The Chap at Grafham will possibly be John Mees, who is Top Bloke IMO and the ladies in shop I always find very nice and helpful.

The people over at Rutland are always very helpful as well, I fished with one of the wardens this year in the regional qualifiers and had a great day on the water.

I guess if you meet someone at the wrong time you can be left with a poor impression, which isn't always the right one and like you say this isn't particularly good for business.

Apart from club Bailiffs the only other contact i have had on a regular basis has been with Bristol Water Co Wardens, who have always been civil towards me.

Am i in the minority here ?

I have always found the staff at Rutland to be very helpful. The shop, I believe, is under staffed, especially at the weekend. For anyone who has not been there, it is a big shop and to expect someone to run it on their own is unrealistic.

For you're third post on this forum I think it's a bit contentious and quite a vicious attack. Would like to totally disagree with you concerning XXXX at Ravensthorpe .I know him only on the few times a year fishing there and have never found him to be anything but extremely courteous and helpful .
If you listen carefully you can hear axe's grinding in the distance

Billybunter - had it not occured to you that your statement is libelous. You and the forum could be open to legal action whether you would say it to the person's face or not?

Edit: Billybunter's second post - the one about blood n' guts and zander heads wasn't very pleasant either.
I agree with O'Reilly - an axe to grind...

Problems with bosses very often lead to discontent further down the line.
Things like "you will not be able to have your day off this week" or "sorry that holiday isn't possible" will put most people off their work.
Things are difficult at AW reservoirs for the working staff at present, pressure from the higher ranks trying to justify their jobs is the problem. ONE member of staff to deal with boats going out and selling day tickets and selling tackle on a busy weekend to me seems blatant bad management.
They can't even be ill with the bosses that are now in situ???

The girls at Grafham are great and I have nothing but respect for how they work, it's just a shame the management had to tell Roger "we will have to let you go". For God's sake he was only part time anyway!! So how much did that save??
Better sack some of the bosses to make real savings!!

Thumbs down management changes

I believe that Anglian water are making some sweeping staff changes that are not to the benifit of the customer,But are good looking on the balance sheet.
For what it's worth I believe that it will end in major loss of Customer/Angler satisfaction.
