Default high temps not good for fish.

With all this heat and taking temps today of the water which was at 24degrees which is seriously hot,we are considering ,only while it is hot and only in the one loch, as we have oxygen going into the other one,to make it a catch and kill on one and allow catch and release in the loch with oxygen going in where there is no problems returning them there. We feel for the benefit of the fish this is the only thing we can do as those which are being released in this loch are keeling over as they are not recovering properly after release by anglers, some are very novice and its not to there detrement even if you show them learning takes time ,plus the heat aswell. The only other choice is close while the heat is on.

It would be ok if everyone took the time to help fish recover but it is not possible as Im sure you would understand and to protect fish at the moment in these really hot temps is important.A fish is just a fish to some, but as a business we still need to protect them aswell as keep our anglers happy. It is only till it cools a bit and then back to normal.

I would appreciate your thoughts and are we being unreasonable and bear in mind, it is only in one loch for catch and kill and the other catch and release and kill if you wish as this is fine.it doesnt limit anyones fishing experience or times or effect our current rules apart from the fact you would need to kill the fish you caught in this one loch.

As I say its either do this or lose to many fish in this one loch through releasing them or close it.

is there no way to interconnect the two temporarily creating flow from the oxygenated one to the other increasing water movement and oxygen absorbancy ???

if we could get a flow of water from rain it would be ok as they do connect im looking at other ways and will solve it for the future .Its only these temps which are very high and not normal that has caused it.It is only a temporary measure to protect the fish in this one loch the others are fine.

how about hiring a pump and pump from one to the other at place of joining aiming outflow away from connection point of ponds ,thereby creating a flow ?? anything is better than losing your stock buddy ???

Hi' Kevin. Have you considered spraying water up into the air, or is that too impracticable or too expensive? Hope you manage OK. Terry

Its not as bad as it may sound and we are quite lucky I would say, as some others may be finding.its really just the one loch which concerns me.It is ok but we dont have an aeration system in that one the others are fine but we are getting onre or two dead fish from it .I do put it down to when they are released and they are not being given time to recover with addition of the heat and stress of being caught and are going belly up.We are going to make sure we ask all our anglers to ensure they are given time and released when they recover ready to go.Also till the water cools a little, which hopefully wont be too long,we will put a catch and kill policy on this loch only for the time being but the others will still be cand r and kill at the anglers choice.which i dont think is unreasonable.

I know what you mean Terry and for this loch we will be looking at soemthing like it for the future.
