Default Tippet material

Hi all, as i have said before "not to good at fly fishing, but getting better".I would like your thoughts on tippet material, as i do all my fly fishing on still waters, and mostly use lures, nymphs, buzzers etc and very very rarely dry flies is it really necessary to buy the expensive tippet material or is it ok to do as i am doing by using ordinary line such as drennan double strength. If i need to change, what do you recommend. Thanks in advance MASS. P.S.Saw Charles Jardine doing a demo some time ago,£18.99 tippet material, sorry to much for me

I stopped using drennan D/S so long ago now mate I can't remember why most people use co-poly for dry fly! floro-carb for wets and nymphs I see whereyou live so you're kna**ered for a flyfishing tackle shop unless you go to the bring-and-buy sale at mullarkeys.every body has their preferences but mine are fulling mill flo-ro and frog hair co-poly(dont be tempted to buy hardy's plz!!)just buy 10lb,8lb & 6lb make up your own leaders never ever let me down!they are alot thinner and you will be able to get away with 6lb droppers and points! good luck mate and welcome

I'll second fulling mills flouro for subsurface and frog hair co poly for dry or small nymph work.
The reason for copoly for dries is it doesn't drag the fly under like flouro and it is supple so you get less drag etc.

Also worth noting if using co poly of which I am using for all my river dry work both the wychwood and frog hair you really need to use a 5 turn tucked blood knot as it will slip with a normal blood knot. Don't ask how I know this I just do.

Used to use Drennan subsurface nylon then switched to FM flouro and now onto Spiderwire and my takes have went up considerably since switching to Spiderwire.

As soon as I run out I will be getting more from Grommit as it really is the business.
