Around Builth Wells (Powys) is nice. All your requirements and more fishing than you can shake a stick at.

I've booked this place for later this year. Not far from Bala and the excellent River Dee, but also has two rivers in the grounds with free trout fishing. Not been before so can't tell you if it's any good but, as long as it's fishable, the Dee is a fantastic grayling river with day tickets through Bala Anglers.

I've been exploring the Usk and other rivers in south wales. You can book beats through the Wye and Usk Foundation http://www.wyeuskfoundation.org/. If you would like a guide I would highly recommend Kim Tribe http://www.fishing.visitwales.com/en..._Wales_wi.aspx. Kim is a world class guide and would take you to some excellent fishing and I've learnt lots from him. Obviously it's a lot more expensive than going on your own but as they say around here there are no pockets in shrouds.

Brecon would be a nice place go stay and I'm sure has access to the other activities you want in the Brecon Beacons - have a look at http://www.breconbeacons.org/, http://www.fishing-in-kite-country.co.uk/index.html.
I'm only Welsh by marriage so not biased or so prone to wild excaggeration! However, the fishing in South Wales is excellent and much recommended.

Icky I can whole heartedly recomend this place! My and the wife had a brill stay with Margaret and Gordon 3 years ago. If all goes well and to plan were going back down next year with our friends. It aint far from the towi, the teifi is at the bottom of the field with I would say at leat 3 pools perfect for night time fly fishing and a pond with big browns and bows in front of the cottages. They will offer to fetch your papers etc from the local shop in the morn and if the time of year is ok you will get super field mushrooms pick in the morn by Gordon himslef.

Default holiday in wales

Icky, have you heard of Gludy.
It's not river fishing, i know. But for a holiday in wales in my opinion it can't be beaten. You hire the whole place to yourselves, beautiful rural setting with good lakeside accomodation.
The would be plenty of other activities in the surrounding area to keep all intetested.
Check out the web-site www.gludy.co.uk
